Cristy and Byron Mowen purchased the Fort Madison franchise location in October of 2000. Byron had been working at ServiceMaster for seven years previously, starting as a floor technician and working his way up to become general manager, while Cristy had worked for Farm Land Foods. In the beginning, Byron took care of day-to-day operations and Cristy handled the bookkeeping, billing, and payroll. Additionally, they both went out on jobs such as carpet cleaning, house cleaning, water damage, and fire losses, and they filled in for janitorial staff when needed.
After several years of working tirelessly, Byron and Cristy were able to step back and focus more on running the business rather than completing cleaning and restoration jobs. Their hard work had paid off, and ServiceMaster Cleaning and Restoration had become an industry leader in the Fort Madison, IA area. In 2013, Byron and Cristy were awarded for reaching the one million dollar mark, a feat they’ve repeated every year since. With such success, the franchise quickly outgrew its original location and, in 2014, the Mowens purchased a 7,000 sq.ft. building with plenty shop and office areas for future growth.
In September 2015, the Mowens purchased the Burlington ServiceMaster, which allowed them to expand their service area to include Lee, Des Moines, Louisa, and Henry counties. At that time, they also rebranded the business name to ServiceMaster Cleaning & Restoration. Today, the franchise has 50 employees and nine vehicles in order to serve residential and commercial customers on a daily basis.
